Buffy Reboot Returns with Gellar
Hulu may be bringing back Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Variety reports a reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially returning as Buffy in a recurring role. While the series will focus on a new Slayer, Gellar's involvement is a significant development.
Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals) is reportedly in negotiations to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original creator Joss Whedon is not participating in this reboot.
Whedon's absence follows allegations of creating a toxic work environment on the original Buffy and its spin-off, Angel.
Plot details remain scarce, but the reboot will center around a new Slayer, with Gellar's potential return adding a layer of anticipation.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight supernatural forces. Her allies included Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Watcher Rupert Giles. The series spawned Angel and continued through official comic books.
