Black Myth: Wukong, the action RPG based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, is set to launch on Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025—exactly one year after its debut on PS5 and PC.
Xbox announced the news on Twitter/X, stating, "You are the Destined One. Black Myth: Wukong arrives August 20. Pre-orders open June 18!"

Black Myth: Wukong has been a massive success, with over 25 million copies sold as of January 31, 2025. Still, its absence from Xbox Series X/S has been conspicuous, especially since it was never officially marketed as an exclusive title.
Some reports pointed to a Sony exclusivity arrangement rather than technical challenges as the reason for the delay, but Fen Ji, head of developer Game Science, reportedly placed responsibility on the Xbox Series S.
“The only platform still missing is Xbox,” he said, via machine learning translation, “which doesn’t feel quite right, but its 10GB of shared memory—without extensive optimization experience—makes it genuinely difficult to handle.”
Now, it seems those optimization hurdles have been overcome, and Xbox players will soon be able to add the game to their collections.

Beyond technical concerns, Black Myth: Wukong has made headlines for other reasons—we previously reported on the developer’s history of sexist remarks back in 2023.
