Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in Dynasty Warriors history, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.

Initial Strategy:

Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Securing two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base conquest; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon. Once all bases are under your control, assault Hulao Gate.

Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:

The initial assault on the gate is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the defenses and paving your way towards Hulao Gate.

Lu Bu's Intervention:

Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful at this stage. Instead, eliminate enemy officers around the main battle to maintain morale, which Lu Bu's presence will severely deplete. Lu Bu will eventually target your main base and Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily hold him off, giving you a time window to defeat Dong Zhuo. Once the game indicates Liu Bei's retreat, prioritize Dong Zhuo's defeat.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

Resupply at a conquered base if needed, then capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads poised for attack and your health replenished, charge towards Dong Zhuo's commander's circle.

Dong Zhuo will unleash two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage (if available) to break through enemy lines and eliminate the soldiers and officers guarding the catapults. Your forces will then destroy them.

The second Grand Tactic necessitates defeating an officer. Proceed to the stairs on the right, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan. A duel with Diaochan is recommended to avoid being overwhelmed.

After thwarting the second Grand Tactic, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces, bolstered by morale, and potentially aided by Dian Wei's Grand Tactic, should easily overcome Dong Zhuo's weakened forces. Focus on defeating Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
