Astro Bot Reaches Unbelievable Milestone
Astro Bot: A Platforming Champion Crowned with 104 Game of the Year Awards
Team Asobi's Astro Bot has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing all other platformers to become the most awarded in history, boasting an impressive 104 Game of the Year wins. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards.
Initially launched in September 2024, Astro Bot quickly exceeded expectations. Building upon the popular Astro's Playroom tech demo, it delivered a greatly expanded experience filled with PlayStation cameos. The game's immediate success saw it become the highest-rated new release of 2024.
The Game Awards 2024 proved to be a pivotal moment, with Astro Bot receiving numerous accolades, culminating in a coveted Game of the Year award. However, the true extent of its success only recently emerged, thanks to a Twitter user highlighting its impressive award count on gamefa.com's Game of the Year Award Tracker.
While Astro Bot's achievement is monumental within the platformer genre, it still trails significantly behind industry giants like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 wins), Elden Ring (435 wins), and The Last of Us Part II (326 wins). Nevertheless, Astro Bot's commercial performance is equally impressive, surpassing 1.5 million copies sold by November 2024—a remarkable feat considering its relatively small development team (under 70 developers) and three-year development cycle.
This triumph firmly establishes Astro Bot as a major PlayStation franchise, solidifying its place in gaming history.
