At 7.5 pounds and 0.85 inches thick, it still requires a 360W power brick and is recommended to be used plugged in. Its smaller size means it features a 16-inch display, a standard laptop keyboard without a dedicated numpad, and lacks an ethernet jack. However, it can be equipped with the same powerful internals, including an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, thanks to its effective cooling system.

Four models are available at reduced prices during the Memorial Day Sale. The $2,850 model includes an RTX 5070 Ti GPU, the $2,999.99 and $3,150 models feature an RTX 5080, and the $3,650 model is outfitted with an RTX 5090.

The Area-51 laptop is powered by the formidable Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, which features a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz, 24 cores, and 40MB of L2 cache. According to Passmark, this processor is among the fastest mobile CPUs available, competing directly with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.

Notebookcheck reports that the RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU is a significant upgrade, matching the performance of the RTX 4080, while the RTX 5070 aligns with the RTX 4070. Both are capable of running games smoothly at the native 1920x1200 resolution of the display.

Tom's Hardware notes that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU offers a 15%-20% performance boost over the RTX 4080 and even outperforms the RTX 4090 by about 5%. It presents a better value proposition compared to the RTX 5090, being nearly $1,000 less expensive yet only 15% less powerful. With the QHD+ (2560x1600) display of the Alienware Area-51, the RTX 5080 should deliver high framerates in new and upcoming games, especially when supported by DLSS 4.

The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

In 2025, the Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop introduces a magnesium alloy chassis and an enhanced cooling system to handle the latest high-performance components. This system includes additional fans, larger cutouts for increased airflow, more copper usage, and a new thermal interface material to efficiently dissipate heat. Dell claims the laptop can manage a 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.

The design of the Area-51 emphasizes smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, distinguishing it from the typical squared-off laptop designs. The hinges are discreetly positioned internally for a sleek look. Customizable RGB LED lighting options are a hallmark of Alienware laptops. Connectivity options include three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt/USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16-inch model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18-inch model is 9.6 pounds.
