My First Adult LEGO Purchase Was This Mario Set and I Have No Regrets
I'm generally practical with my spending. Essentials and the occasional sale-priced video game usually cover it. It wasn't until last year that I even considered a LEGO set, despite enjoying them as a kid. The price is a big factor; while some sets are affordable, licensed ones are often pricey. That's why the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant took so long to convince me. It's been on sale for under $50 since October, but only recently did I decide my desk needed a new, rather unusual, potted plant.

I considered this set after seeing IGN's build. A lifelong Mario fan, it seemed the perfect way to showcase my love for the franchise. LEGO's botanical line has lovely flower sets, but none are as delightfully terrifying as this little guy.
My LEGO Piranha Plant
Having built it, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It evokes the Mushroom Kingdom, a little potted Piranha Plant I've cultivated during work. I loved the build process; it was challenging yet manageable in an afternoon. It's my first Nintendo LEGO set, but definitely not my last.

LEGO is expensive. Adult-targeted sets often exceed $200, blurring the line between indulgence and overspending. This Mario set, under $50, felt justifiable. The hours spent building it, and the daily happiness it brings, make it worthwhile for me. Is that happiness worth over $50? Probably. But that's my limit.
