Suivant le Godzilla contre Fantastic Four # 1 et Godzilla contre Hulk # 1 , ce nouvel épisode transporte les lecteurs dans un cadre rétro. L'histoire se déroule à la suite de la * Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars de 1984, peu de temps après le retour de Peter Parker de Battleworld et ses difficultés initiales avec le symbiote extraterrestre. Cette fois, la force améliorée de Spidey sera mise au test ultime contre le roi des monstres.

Joe Kelly, récemment annoncé comme l'écrivain pour la prochaine RELAUCK Amazing Spider-Man , pâlit le script de Godzilla contre Spider-Man # 1 . L'art est géré par Nick Bradshaw (connu pour son travail sur Wolverine et les X-Men ), avec des contributions à la couverture de Bradshaw, Lee Garbett et Greg Land.

"Au moment où j'ai entendu parler d'un crossover Godzilla/Spidey des années 80, j'ai pratiquement sauté à travers la table pour le réclamer", a expliqué Kelly avec IGN. "Cette bande dessinée est une chance de tout faire avec deux personnages emblématiques, capturant l'énergie chaotique de l'époque où j'ai activement collecté des bandes dessinées de Spider-Man. Et Spidey (dans son costume noir parfaitement normal, pas très insolite!) La gravité qu'ils méritent.

Ce n'est pas la première fois que Godzilla affronte les super-héros occidentaux. La Justice League de DC contre Godzilla contre Kong (avec une suite en préparation) a présenté les versions Monsterverse des Titans. Cependant, la série de Marvel présente le classique Toho Godzilla.

Cette annonce fait suite au dévoilement de Godzilla contre Los Angeles # 1 d'IDW, une bande dessinée en anthologie qui a fait un don à Wildfire Relief.
