Application Description

Investigating vehicle collisions requires thorough data analysis. The CrashScan app, used with an OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth adapter, provides a powerful tool for accessing and interpreting data from a vehicle's Event Data Recorder (EDR), commonly known as the "black box," where supported. CrashScan helps investigators identify, capture, and analyze stored accident data, aiding in the validation of insurance claims and providing crucial insights into liability.

Vehicle Support (EDR & Full System Diagnostic Scan)

CrashScan supports over 3000 unique vehicle year/make/model combinations internationally. Check compatibility here: https://collisionsciences.ca/reports/check_support/

Contextual Accident Reports

A successful CrashScan provides detailed information about impact severity, orientation (front, rear, side), and crucial context, including:

  • Accident severity (minor, moderate, severe)
  • EDR trigger thresholds
  • 5 seconds of pre-crash data: speed, brake/accelerator pedal use, steering
  • Occupant count and seatbelt status
  • Estimated repair cost
  • Likelihood of structural crush damage
  • Injury risk thresholds (whiplash, injury duration)
  • G-force context compared to daily activities

*Injury risk algorithms utilize stored acceleration values, scientific articles, and databases like the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS).
