Application Description
Boerenbridge, also known in Flanders as Chinese Pooping, is an engaging card game that combines strategy and prediction. Here's how to keep track of points effectively in this popular game:
Game Objective
The main goal of Chinese Pooping is to accurately predict and achieve the number of strokes (or tricks) you can win in each round. Points are awarded based on how well players meet their predictions.
Game Setup and Play
- Dealing Cards: The game starts with one card dealt to each player in the first round, increasing by one card each subsequent round until the maximum number of cards per player is reached (e.g., 10 cards for 5 players). After reaching the maximum, the number of cards dealt decreases back to one card per player in the final round.
- Bidding: Players bid on the number of strokes they expect to win, starting with the player to the left of the dealer. The highest bidder sets the trump suit for that round.
- Bidding Restriction: The dealer, who bids last, must ensure the total number of strokes bid does not equal the total number of cards dealt in that round. For example, in a round where 7 cards are dealt to each player, if the first three players bid 0, 3, and 2 strokes respectively, the dealer cannot bid 2 strokes because 0 + 3 + 2 + 2 would equal 7.
Scoring Points
- Successful Prediction: If a player accurately predicts the number of strokes they win, they score points equal to the number of strokes they bid plus 10 bonus points.
- Failed Prediction: If a player fails to meet their prediction, they lose points equal to the number of strokes they bid.
- Overachievement: If a player wins more strokes than they predicted, they only score points for the number of strokes they bid, without the bonus.
Example Scoring
- Player A bids 3 strokes and wins exactly 3 strokes: Player A scores 3 + 10 = 13 points.
- Player B bids 2 strokes but wins only 1 stroke: Player B loses 2 points.
- Player C bids 1 stroke but wins 2 strokes: Player C scores only 1 point.
Tracking Points
To keep track of points effectively:
- Use a Score Sheet: Maintain a score sheet to record each player's bid and actual strokes won after each round. This helps in calculating points at the end of each round.
- Running Totals: Keep a running total of each player's points throughout the game to easily determine the winner at the end.
- Final Round: The game concludes after the last round with one card per player. The player with the highest total points wins.
